Fruit Hacks

This week on Life Hack Lab I decided to get fruity.

By that I mean I tested out some fruit related life hacks.

Break An Apple In Half Life Hack:

For the first life hack, all you need is an apple, two hands and the will of a warrior. The first life hack I found for this week is ripping an apple in half with your bare hands! At this point you might be thinking, “how can this be a helpful life hack?” Oh ye of little faith.

Imagine if you will, you and a buddy are hiking through the woods when suddenly the two of you realize your stomachs are empty and you need to eat. Unfortunately, your friend only brought one apple to eat. Or at least, it would be unfortunate if you hadn’t learned this amazing life hack from this blog. Your friend looks on in astonishment as you tear the delicious treat asunder. You then toss him his half as you feast on your splendor.

To break an apple in half with your hands you need to remove the stem and place the apple between your hands. Put the bottom parts of your thumbs into the crevasse were the stem was and begin pushing into the apple and pulling your thumbs apart. I used the tips of my thumbs to help get the apple cracking. You can see me do this in the video below.

Initially, I was skeptical about this life hack. The apple I saw this done to online was small. I decided if the hack didn’t also work on a bigger apple I would fail the life hack. To my amazement, it did work. The apple ended up taking me about 35 seconds to split in half, but I think with some practice I could have done it in half the time. This apple life hack is approved.

Already Cut Banana Life Hack:

Up next, I found a life hack that isn’t very useful but could be fun to surprise people with. Watch the video below to see what the life hack is.

With this hack, you can have an unsuspecting person peel a banana only to find that it has miraculously been cut into small pieces already. But how does it work? You take something like a needle or safety pin and poke a hole into the banana. Once the pin is inside the banana, move it back and forth horizontally to cut the inside of the banana. Then take out the pin and repeat a few times moving further down the banana with each puncture.

Is it a practical way to cut a banana? No really. But it’s a cool trick that’s bound to blow somebody’s mind.

Strawberry Life Hack:

Lastly, I discovered a quick and easy way to get rid of the stem from a strawberry. If you push a straw through the center of a strawberry from the bottom up it will pop those annoying leaves out of the top of the tiny fruit. Check out the photos of how I did this below.

This life hack is simple and perhaps allows you to have more strawberry left than cutting the leaves off. The only slight negative is the weird tube shaped piece of strawberry attached to the stem that is left over afterwards. If you can get passed how strange it looks I suppose you could eat this part too. This strawberry life hack is approved.

Come back next week to see me test out some more interesting life hacks.

Toilet Paper Tube Music Amplifier

Good iPhone speakers can be expensive purchases. What do you do if you need bump up the bass and impress your lady friends when you don’t have the time or money to go buy one? Simple, all you need is one toilet paper roll, four push pins, an iPhone and some killer beats.
Or at least, that’s what the internet says. So, I figured I would test this life hack out to see if really works.

First off, I headed to my bathroom, unrolled all my toilet paper, and brought the toilet paper roll over to the “lab.” I thought it would be easy enough to find some push pins laying around, but I ended up buy a pack from Walmart. I can never find pins when I need them. Next, I cut an iPhone shaped hole in the side of my toilet paper roll. The hole was about 1 mm in length and 5 ½ mm in width.

After that I inserted the phone vertically into the slot and gave it a listen.

Yeah, this life hack is pretty much a fail. Maybe the music was slightly louder, but the sound increase was not substantial enough for me to approve this life hack. Plus, the very small increase in sound probably isn’t worth the massive decrease in your social status when people see your phone sticking out of a toilet paper roll. It just looks kind of sad.

My recommendation would be to buy a real speaker for your music. Even though cheapest Bluetooth speakers available online are better than this atrocity. I suggest a Canz Bluetooth speaker. These things sound great and are only $20. I have one and I really like it. This isn’t sponsored or anything, I just didn’t want to leave you with nothing.
